MORE INFO:

'The Torso Killer' Richard Cottingham earned his nickname by dismembering prostitutes working in New York in the late 1960s and 1970s. The serial killer from New Jersey operated in New York, killing prostitutes during a 3 year period. Leading a double life as a respectable computer operator, with a wife and children at home, no one would suspect that Richard Cottingham would become known as 'The Torso Killer.' He had a habit of dismembering and mutilating his victims, only leaving the torso behind. Cottingham was determined to lead the police on a frenzied manhunt, using disguises and fake names to avoid being caught. But it was only a matter of time before he was eventually caught at a motel while fleeing an attempted murder. Officially, Cottingham was convicted of six killings, but made claims to nearly one hundred.
