Make-up guru Caroline Barnes has done shoots for Glamour, Marie Claire and Instyle, and worked on celebs including Kylie, Duffy, Diane Kruger and Natasha Bedingfield. She currently represents Max Factor, so we asked her to share some insider secrets with us ordinary folk.

What's in your make up bag?

What is your favourite Max Factor product and why?

The new Second Skin Foundation. Our skin is made up of 60% water and the foundation has a 60% water content, so it glides on really smoothly, blends beautifully and sits well against the skin, giving it healthy, glowing finish.

What's the easiest way to look fresh after a night out on the town?

Drink a large glass of water before bed and use a Decléor face oil, like Aromessence Néroli. If you need to, use Max Factor Mastertouch Concealer under the eye area the next day.

Which celebrity make-up looks are easiest to copy?

Angelina Jolie's look is sophisticated but striking. Go for red lips and natural eye shades.

Can you share your favourite top secret beauty tip with us?

To remove dark circles, apply an opaque concealer – this hides blue grey and grey tones. Then lightly dust over with your normal powder, and finally lightly pat on a touch of Max Factor Mastertouch Concealer to bounce back the light.

What is your favourite natural beauty product?

REN rose shower gel. It doesn't contain any parabens, sulphates or synthetic fragrances.

Is expensive make-up worth the price tag?

It's really all about what suits you and your skin, and there are some great high street brands using cutting edge technology. Max Factor's brand new foundation technology Second Skin foundation is a really unique formula - not even the prestige market have it.

How do you achieve a flawless make-up look?

You don't need to use too much foundation; apply a small amount to your fingers or brush, start at the middle of your face around your nose and T zone and work out from there. Use more only if you have to. Max Factor Creamy Blush in Soft Pink gives the skin a really healthy glow and is long lasting.

Lipstick or lip-gloss – what's best for which occasions?

Lipstick is more versatile and can be worn all the time. Try a long lasting lipstick like Max Factor Lipfinity, it will last for 12 hours and has a top coat to add shine. Light glosses are best for day and darker ones to glam up for the evenings.
