Charles Starkweather was a teenage American serial killer who murdered 11 people in the late 1950s during a road trip with his 14-year-old girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate. The third of seven siblings, Starkweather was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. His first murder was committed in 1957, with him then going on to kill Fugate's mother, father and three-year-old sister, Betty, along with seven other victims in the space of nine days. He was tried for first degree murder along with Fugate, and was sentenced to death in 1958. He was executed 17 months after sentencing at the age of 20. Caril Ann Fugate served 17 years in prison before being released in 1976.
