Serves: 12

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Effort: Easy

  • 125g Unsalted Butter, Softened

  • 125g Caster Sugar

  • 2 Eggs, Room Temperature

  • 1 Orange, Zest Only

  • 125g Self-Raising Flour

  • 1 tbsp Milk

  • For the cupcakes: Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4/. Pop your cake cases into the holes of a muffin tin.

  • Cream the butter and sugar together, ideally with a hand mixer, until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs one by one with the orange zest, mixing well and then add the flour. Mix well then add the milk.

  • Using two teaspoons divide the mixture equally between each case, or use an ice cream scoop.

  • Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes until they're done and when they've turned golden and a toothpick comes out clean once poked inside the cake. Allow to cool.

  • For the buttercream: Combine the butter and icing sugar, orange extract/zest and milk until you have a super creamy and light buttercream.

  • Using the end of a toothpick, add small amounts of food colouring to your buttercream, beating to combine and gradually building up the desired shade of orange.

  • Put a star shaped nozzle into a disposable piping bag and sit in a cup or glass. Spoon in the buttercream and then pipe swirls on top of each cake.

  • To decorate: Place a mini Oreo on each cake to form the spiders body. Then unroll the liquorice discs and snip into equal lengths and arrange around each body to create 8 legs for each spider.
