What is PMT?
PMT (pre menstrual tension) is a collection of symptoms experienced by women 7-14 days before menstruation, including breast pain, bloating, oedema, irritability, depression, and food cravings, among others.
What are the symptoms of PMT?
Symptoms vary from person to person. As well as the above mentioned, symptoms include headaches, abdominal cramps, insomnia, fatigue, acne and an increased body temperature.
What causes PMT?
Although PMT has been linked to the latter phase of the menstrual cycle, the cause of PMT is unclear predominantly because are no medical findings to prove the diagnosis.
How can PMT be treated?
Medical literature does not define PMT as an illness therefore treatment is not generally offered. Therefore nutritional answers are generally sought; often this comes as secondary to other health problems as women tend to accept this as normal.
