Kid Criminals

This two-part documentary looks at one of the great taboo subjects of our times - child crime and punishment. We meet the 13 to 15-year-old inmates of the US's most notorious juvenile institutions, getting to know the boys and girls who have committed serious, often shocking crimes. In an effort to reduce the number of children in prison, some US states are trying a revolutionary new approach, with shorter sentences and an emphasis on rehabilitation and treatment programmes. But will it work?
